The foundation of Sajjangarh Biological Park started in 2004 – 2005 under the Rajasthan Forestry and Biodiversity Project, with the financial assistance of the Japan International Co-operation Agency. Built up in an area over 36 Hectares with a budget of 21.70 Crore Indian Rupees. The reason behind this park came into existence was due to the fact that existing zoo Gulab Bagh failed to fulfil the nomenclature laid by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi. During the development of this park, each of the authorities played an immense role viz. the civil construction works were executed by the Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Corporation Ltd., the service road was built by the Public Works Department whereas the forestry-related works were carried out by the Forest Department.
The inauguration of this park was done on 12 April 2015 by Prakash Javdekar, an Indian Minister holding portfolios of Environment and Forests. The zoo constituted different varieties of animals and birds which have been brought together from various parts of the world. At present, this is a home to 60 animals, 21 species including tigers, panthers, lions, ostriches, alligators, rhesus monkeys, etc. The lush green dense forest and the cooing and howling of animals, the presence of an abundance of flora and fauna in the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary makes it an ideal spot for adventurers, thrill-seekers and animal lovers. The main objective is to make people aware about flora and fauna and create sympathy towards wild animals, which are ruthlessly killed for benefits of personal or commercial reasons. The animals in the park are kept in enclosures so visitors can spot these while visiting the park. Various measures have been taken deployed to maintain the health of the fauna and care of wildlife present in the Sajjangarh Biological Park. On top of this there is a Zoo Hospital for taking care of animals and a Nutrition Centre at the zoo which serves the food requirement of wild animals of the zoo. There are a full-time experienced veterinarian and a trained compounder to take of the animals. The best part of the Biological Park is it prohibits the usage of plastic covers/bags inside the zoo and CCTV cameras are installed in the zoo for 24 hours of surveillance.

History of Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary
Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is a salient part of Sajjangarh Palace built-in 1884 which received it its name from Maharana Sajjan Singh – one of the bravest rulers of the Mewar dynasty. Constructed in stunning white marble with nine floors and one can get a marvellous view of Lake Pichola and nearby areas. Sajjangarh Palace serves as a galactic centre to the King Maharana Sajjan Singh. The Palace was used to keep track of monsoon clouds, and the nearby areas were used as a hunting ground. As hunting reflected the king’s bravery; therefore, the Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier used as a hunting ground by the royal members of the Mewar dynasty of Udaipur. The area is thickly wooded, making it a better shooting preserve for royal hunters. Post-independence, the government of India made hunting an illegal activity and therefore in 1987, these hunting grounds were converted into a Wildlife Sanctuary to preserve and protect wildlife.
When it comes to technological advancement, the park launched India’s First Augmented Reality Application and their mascot in association with Panther Studio Pvt Ltd to promote wildlife tourism and education about local flora and fauna. The application was launched on 29th May 2019 by Dr. C. P. Joshi, an Indian politician holding the position of Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
Attractions at Sajjangarh Biological Park
The park received more than 46,000 visitors in a month which generated a revenue of Rs 14 Lakh for the forest department and is a record in itself. The mascot is one of the most interesting attractions of biopark where visitors can click selfies with the mascot by scanning the Sajjangarh logo using the Sajjangarh AR Application.

Located at a safe distance of 7 km from the winding road and 5 Km from the old city of Udaipur, Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the foothill of Sajjangarh Palace which in turn sits on the Bansdara Peak of the Aravalli Range at an elevation of 944 m above the sea level.

Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary is spread in 5.19 square kilometres. There is a rock-solid wall of Chirag Pol which protects the sanctuary.
